One of our best minivans for families, the 2019 Kia Sedona doesn’t just offer seating for up to eight people — it gives them plenty of room to spread out, too, though this ample leg room does eat into cargo capacity a bit when you’re ferrying a full crowd. When you’re not, folding down the seats opens up some space, but at least one competitor allows more. However, with one of the longest warranties and competitive pricing, the Sedona could be a strong contender if you’re looking for a large, reliable vehicle.

2019 Kia Sedona pricing and trims
Pricing on the 2019 Kia Sedona starts at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $27,200. There are four trims total, each offering different levels of amenities. For the top, SX trim, the price goes up to $41,100.
|2019 Kia Sedona Pricing and Trims|
|Standard Features||V6 Engine, 17″ Alloy Wheels, 7″ Touch Screen, 12 Cup Holders, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, Slide-n-Stow® 2nd Row Seats||Dual Power Sliding Doors, Rear Privacy Glass, Adjustable Driver Lumbar Support, 6 Audio Speakers||18″ Alloy Wheels, Blindspot Collision Warning, Leather-Trimmed Seats, Wireless Phone Charger||LED Headlights, Power Sunroof, Smart Power Liftgate, Sound-Absorbing Windshield Glass, 8″ Touch Screen|
What about sales pricing? You do not necessarily have to pay MSRP for a vehicle. Depending on where and when you shop, you may be able to find a 2019 Kia Sedona for less than MSRP due to dealership sales or manufacturer rebates. Shop around and use industry guides such as NADAguides or Kelley Blue Book to see the fair market price is in your area.
What about seating? The Sedona can seat seven people in the L trim and eight people on the LX trim and up. The seating for that eighth person is not provided by a second-row bench seat; rather, it’s a separate middle seat meant for the second row, which can be folded up to make an arm rest, folded down below the floor or removed completely, depending on your needs.
What’s next? Once you pick out the car you want, a car loan is next. Potential lenders include Kia financing, your bank, credit union or online lender. You could also fill out an online form at LendingTree to receive up to five potential auto loan offers from lenders at once, depending on your creditworthiness.
2019 Kia Sedona safety
The Sedona earned a five-star crash test safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), however, marked it down for “poor” headlights, and only “acceptable” results from passenger side crash testing and ease of use for LATCH child seat restraints.
Kia’s Drive Wise suite offers some advanced driver safety features but only on upper trims:
On the EX and above:
- Parking Distance Warning, Forward and Reverse. At low speeds, the car can alert you that it is getting too close to an object behind it or in front of it.
- Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning. The vehicle can alert the driver visually and audibly when it senses an on-coming car in one of its blind spots when it is in reverse.
- Vehicle Stability Management. This adds steering direction control to help further stabilize the car.
- Blind Spot Collision Warning. The vehicle warns the driver if an object is in its blind spot.
On the SX (and optional on the EX):
- Forward Collision Warning and Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection. Warns the driver of a potential collision and applies the brakes if the driver does not.
- Lane Departure Warning. The car can alert the driver if it senses it is drifting out of the lane.
- Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go. With cruise control on, the car can adjust its speed to match and follow a car in front of it. The car can also automatically come to a complete stop and start again, up to the preset speed, if the stop time is less than three seconds.
Yet be aware that no matter how many safety features the vehicle has, you should still practice safe driving methods. If one of your concerns is potential bad weather, look at our best cars for snow.
2019 Kia Sedona competitor comparison
If you’re a soccer mom, the Sedona might be just what you’re looking for: it has plenty of seating, not to mention cup holders. But it also has plenty of competition, some of which offer lower pricing or more safety features on the base trim. Here are some of the Sedona’s highest-rated competitors and how they stack up against each other.

Fuel economy is as defined by the EPA for the least-expensive base model trims.
What about an SUV? You don’t need a minivan to fit eight people and still have cargo room. Full-size SUVs could do the trick just as well, while offering you the option of not driving a “mom car.”
What about the warranty? All new Kias come with a 5-year, 60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Most competitors, including the specific ones above, have a 3-year, 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 5-year, 60,000 mile powertrain warranty.
What about fuel efficiency? The Sedona doesn’t get the best gas mileage, so for your reference, here are the best MPG minivans. There is one hybrid minivan on the market, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, but its starting price is relatively high at $39,995. Yet if that’s in your interest and your budget, go for it!
The bottom line on the 2019 Kia Sedona
The 2019 Kia Sedona offers great passenger room for up to eight people at a competitive market price. It’s not the best-selling minivan on the market though — the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna have it soundly beat. If your heart isn’t decided one way or another, you could take a look at the best eight-passenger vehicles and see if anything catches your eye.
