Every small business owner knows the importance of having a good team around them. That means hiring the right people, finding the best contractors and choosing the most efficient and cost-effective support products.
Small businesses have tight budgets and need to maximize every dollar. That’s why choosing the right service can make all the difference. Make the wrong decision and you’ve wasted time and money. Make the right decision and you’ll increase productivity, sales and future earnings. When it comes to efficiency, nothing comes close to being as important as the right phone and internet provider.
But as a small business owner, you don’t always have time to sift through the options and compare them equally. That’s why we’ve done the work for you.
Verizon services for small businesses
Known as a mobile phone company, Verizon is quickly establishing itself in the internet space. Verizon offers fiber internet, which is faster and less affected by interference that can be caused by nearby power lines or other heavy electrical components. In today’s digital age, having reliable and speedy internet is key for any small business. If you’re in an industry where your business regularly uploads and downloads large files, having fiber internet will speed up the process.
For businesses that don’t need the fastest internet speeds, Verizon also has broadband internet with a wide range of options and costs, making it easy to tailor your needs for your specific business. Choosing the right option can seem overwhelming and confusing, so it might be helpful to ask a representative what they recommend based on your usage and type of business.
Verizon also provides security solutions for businesses, including cyber threat defense, cloud storage and privacy protection. For $10 per month, business owners can utilize Tech Support Pro, a 24/7 remote service available to answer any technology questions, even for non-Verizon devices.
Verizon Cloud, its backup storage product, only costs $5 or $9.99 per month depending on the amount of files your business has. In an era where hacking is common, having your files backed up securely can save your business.
AT&T small business overview
AT&T knows that small business owners are busy and need help. That’s why it offers a Business Solutions package, which includes online data backup, website solutions, online fax and 24/7 remote IT support.
It also provides custom website building for a separate fee. For $10 per month, AT&T will host your website, but you’ll have to design it yourself. For $35 per month, AT&T will design a site for you. That fee also includes monthly maintenance, a mobile-friendly layout and one-on-one help.
AT&T even has email marketing services for small business customers. The basic package costs $10 per month and includes email templates and basic reports. The premium package costs $18 per month and has a dashboard to help users manage social media accounts.
AT&T offers both digital and traditional phone services. Digital phones are connected through an internet connection while traditional phones go through a landline. It also has fiber and broadband internet services, though the former product isn’t available everywhere yet.

The bottom line
All products, bundles and packages depend on the company’s availability and your business’s location. Not every service will be available for every address, so some small businesses will only have access to one of the two providers reviewed here.
Input your address into Verizon or AT&T’s websites to see what your availability is. Unfortunately, there’s no clear map or delineation that shows which services are available where; it’s on an address-by-address basis.
If you have the ability to choose, it’s easy to see who to pick. When it comes to general internet pricing, Verizon has AT&T beat. For $109.99 per month, you can get Verizon’s fiber internet with speeds up to 150 Mbps. With AT&T, you can only get 50 Mbps of fiber for $100 per month. If your business doesn’t require large file downloads, then 50 Mbps might be fine if you prefer AT&T. For companies that send huge videos or projects, the difference in speed could be vital.
Even Verizon’s fiber internet and phone bundles are a better deal than AT&T’s. Verizon’s cheapest fiber internet and phone package is only $89.99 per month and has download speeds up to 75 Mbps. AT&T’s least expensive plan only gives you up to 25 Mbps in download speed, but costs $70 per month.
As a small business owner, you need to consider the bottom line, as well as the value, you get from a service. By choosing Verizon, you’ll get more bang for your buck, and a better product.
